Interested in SJ Shoemaker’s services? He offers three different levels of editorial services. Proofreading, line edits, and developmental edits. Distinctions between the three services as well as pricing are listed below. If you have any questions, please contact him via email or the form below.
As a special offer, SJ Shoemaker is offering free sample edits on the first 10 pages for new clients.
PRICING UPDATE! After careful consideration, pricing has been revised from per page with standardized formatting (a model difficult to explain), to a flat, simplified per word price. Enjoy!
What is it? Proofreading is the final and least-intrusive stage in the editing process. It should be reserved for crisp, clean manuscripts which have been developed, polished, and finalized. Proofreading is meant a last check on spelling errors, minor grammar mistakes, and punctuation usage.
How much is it? With the new pricing model, proofreads are 0.5 cents/word. For a manuscript of 80k words, for example, that is only $400.
What is it? Line editing typically occur after multiple drafts when all major changes to the manuscript are completed. During line editing, spelling and grammar mistakes are addressed, style consistency is enforced, prose is improved, and sentence structure is adjusted to ensure your manuscript is as sharp and well polished as can be.
How much is it? With the new pricing model, line edits are 0.75 cent/word. For a manuscript of 80k words, for example, that is only $600.
What is it? Unlike proofreading and line editing, developmental editing is not concerned with spelling and grammar. Instead, developmental edits focus on the “big picture”. Themes, characterization, plot points, flow between scenes, tone, and focus.
How much is it? With the new pricing model, developmental edits are 1.25 cents/word. For a manuscript of 80k words, that is only $1000.
