The other day, my wife showed me a writing challenge she saw on Instagram. There are countless literary descriptions of blonde, red, and even black hair. But brown hair seems to often be passed over by writers. She requested I use a few of her photos as references and describe her hair. These are what I came up with.
Her hair poured from her hat in streams of coffee which splashed across her shoulders in search of a tall cup. “Pull up a chair,” it seemed to say, “and enjoy a conversation with a friendly face.”

The girl with hair like sand ripples at low tide stared into the middle distance. A journey awaited.

She readjusted her oversized coat. More a blanket than clothing. As she lifted her collar against the wind, her loose chocolate curls tucked underneath. Extra padding. Extra warmth.

Her hair was that of a mink. Dark and smooth, hinting of caramel in the shimmering sun.

This was a shorter post, but it was a blast to work on. Comment if you’d like to see more of these or you have a new writing challenge to propose.
